Regional Director Interview Questions

Hiring a new regional director is something that many teams do not relish doing. Replacing the leader of a large portion of your organization can cause a myriad of problems, chief of which being lack of stability. Finding candidates for the role is an important first step, and we highly suggest a recruiting firm for this. But now that you have your candidates, what questions do you ask them in the interview?

Read on below for my favorite Regional Director interview questions!

Tell us why you’re the right fit to lead this region?

Your ideal candidate for your Regional Director should be familiar with the region they are going to lead. Recruiters often forget how important having someone who is a cultural fit is, and this question is a great one to indicate if they really belong. There is no perfect answer to this question, but my current favorite was from a candidate that was from the region they were going to lead. She had a solid understanding of the area, and even of the stores she would be in charge of. Look for these indicators in the answer, they should be pretty obvious.

What is your biggest weakness?

Many recruiters have stopped asking this question because they feel it’s dated, and a bit cliche, but I still find it very useful. I like to see candidates who have put thought into what they think is their weakest point, and I also like to see if they’ve come up with a process to improve upon this.

In your experience, what is the key to developing a good team?

Your regional director will be the leader of your team for that region, it’s in the title, it’s something that is going to happen. You need to know if your candidate will be a good leader of that team. You also need to know if your candidate will be able to keep that team performing at the best of it’s ability. This question should answer that for you.

Lets say you were hired tomorrow, what would be your first step?

I always ask this question when interviewing for leadership positions because I like to see their thought process. I also like to see how far out in advance they’ve thought about this position, it shows that they have actively thought about working for your company. A quality candidate for your company will have a well thought out answer to this question.
