What VP of Operations interview questions do we ask, and what do other firms ask their candidates? We asked our team for their favorite questions and explanations, their summary is below.
What is the #1 thing you would change in the company if you were hired today?
I like to know if a candidate has done their research about the company, and I find that this question gives me a good idea of what they actually know and how they would jump into the position.
How do you handle a team member that you don’t necessarily mesh with?
I am looking for a realistic candidate. If they cannot be grounded in reality enough to realize that they aren’t going to get along perfectly with everyone, than I don’t want them on the team. I am also looking for a solid, diplomatic, response to this answer. As a VP of Operations, you will be handling a lot of people and you need to be a strong leader.
You’re off track to hit your goals, you’re the VP of Operations and you need to turn it around by end of quarter, what are your steps?
I am not looking for a right answer here, I am looking to see how they operate and how they react.
If we wanted to reorganize the company tomorrow, how would you do it?
I am looking to see how they would handle a big re-org project. If they can’t answer, they probably aren’t the right choice.
These are only a small portion of questions you could ask, and we’re always looking for more!
